| How many
treatments do I need? The number of treatments for laser hair
reduction is variable. Most patients need a minimum of four treatments spaced
one to two months apart. However, based on your responsiveness to the laser treatment,
you may need more than four treatments, and possibly touch-ups during your lifetime.
It is important to understand that hair grows in cycles. In order for the laser
to be efficacious, the hair follicle must be in the active growing phase. Therefore,
hair follicles that are in the resting stage will be resistant to laser therapy
at that time.
Who are the best candidates for laser
hair reduction? Since the laser targets pigments, the best candidate
is a patient with dark hair and light skin. This will allow the laser to obliterate
the hair follicle without damage to the surrounding and overlying skin. The laser
is ineffective against gray or blonde hair. The darker skinned individuals can
undergo laser hair reduction, but special considerations and lower energy levels
are required. Is Laser Hair Reduction permanent?
Laser hair reduction should give a 70% reduction in hair growth. What grows
back should be lighter, thinner, and of finer hair quality. Laser hair reduction
is relatively new technology. However, it is Dr. Farella's experience that the
majority of patients have been happy with their results.
