Hi! I'm Dr. John Farella; a board certified plastic surgeon. The decision to use Fillers and Injectables is an exciting one. Fillers and Injectables - Arte-Fill, Arte-Coll, & Sculptra Arte-Fill® (formerly known in the US as Arte-Coll®) is a non-reabsorbable injectable soft tissue filler used to correct facial wrinkles and smile lines (nasolabial folds) associated with aging. It consists of 20% homogeneous polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) plexiglass plastic microspheres suspended in a bovine collagen solution. The microspheres provide permanent support beneath the skin’s top layers to correct wrinkles and prevent further wrinkling. The product was approved by the FDA in December 2006.

Complications in addition to minor swelling and redness include the formation of granulomas (hard bumps) under the skin surface. These side effects of the body’s immune reaction to the microspheres in Arte-Fill® are extremely difficult to treat.

Sculptra™ is an injectable soft tissue filler made from poly-L-lactic acid. The FDA has approved Sculptra™ for treating facial fat loss in persons who are HIV-positive and is pending FDA approval for fine lines and wrinkles for all patients.
