Pulsed Dye Laser

Hi! I'm Dr. John Farella; a board certified plastic surgeon. The decision to undergo Pulsed Dye Laser Treatment is an exciting one. It is my belief, that an educated patient allows you to determine your personal goals, and enables you to make an informed decision. I have developed this website as a patient information source. Hopefully, this site will prepare you for your consultation.

Is pulsed dye laser right for you? If you are bothered by spider veins on your face or legs, angiomas (small, raised, red spots, mainly on your trunk), red scars, rosacea, broken capillaries, or a port wine stain, talk to us about pulsed dye laser.

Best Uses

Description

The pulsed dye laser is non-ablative, meaning that it does not open the skin surface. Its high energy, short wavelength laser beam targets and destroys hemoglobin in blood. Dr. Farella uses the pulsed dye laser to treat vascular lesions like spider veins, broken capillaries, and other red lesions just below the skin surface. Pulsed dye laser is not recommended for patients with dark skin types.

About the Procedure

Pulsed dye laser treatment is non-invasive and takes up to 20 minutes. Dr. Farella asks you to wear dark glasses to protect your eyes from the flashing laser light that we direct to the treatment area.

Results
Pulsed Dye Laser Westchester, Bronx, New York, Mount Kisco

You can expect to see veins and lesions fade after three to six weeks. Multiple treatments are required for optimal results.

Pain

Treatment with the pulsed dye laser causes only minor discomfort similar to the snapping of a rubber band on the skin. We cool your skin during the procedure to ease discomfort and to protect surrounding skin.

Recovery

You can return to work or your normal activities immediately after pulsed dye laser treatment. Bruising from the destruction of blood vessels and changes in skin pigmentation can last for up to two weeks.

Risks and Complications

With any procedure, risks and complications can occur but generally are rare. Pulsed dye laser has few side effects. Crusting of the skin at the treated area, changes in skin texture, and scarring rarely occur.

FDA Approval

Pulsed dye lasers were by the Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of warts, port-wine stains, red birth marks (hemangiomas), hypertrophic scars, and broken capillaries.

We use the Cynergy™ pulsed dye laser technologies.
