Botox Description
Botox is the most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedure for facial rejuvenation. Botox Cosmetic contains botulinum toxin in a purified, injectable form that is used in cosmetic medical procedures to relax facial muscles. Because of its ability to prevent facial muscles from tightening and creating creases, Botox injections have become highly popular for treating forehead and brow lines, as well as other types of facial wrinkles. Botox is also formulated to help reduce profuse underarm perspiration.
Dr. Farella achieves the best results by combining Botox Cosmetic for dynamic lines on the upper face with soft tissue fillers like Restylane and Juvederm for the lower face. Individual cases may call for conservative use of Botox Cosmetic on the lower face with advanced injection techniques, but Dr. Farella prefers other types of treatments that allow smiling and other lower facial expressions.
Liquid Facelift
The term “liquid facelift” refers to a non-surgical procedure that comprises Botox for the upper face, dermal fillers like JuvedermTM and Restylane® for the lower face and cheek area, skin rejuvenation with lasers and lights, and possibly non-surgical skin tightening.
Cost
Pricing for Botox in Westchester varies from physician to physician, depending on geographic area, the number of units injected, and the concentration of units. When choosing a physician, consider the physician s experience with Botox rather than shopping on price alone.
Dr. Farella s extensive experience with Botox enables him to create a symphony of effects by customizing injections for each muscle to get desired results. Although Botox Cosmetic and Botox are formulated from a toxin that causes food poisoning, they do not cause food poisoning symptoms when injected.
About the Procedure (Board Certified)
Botox injections take about 15 minutes and are performed in our office. Anesthesia is not used; the area may be numbed with a cold pack or topical anesthetic before the injection.
Your Botox will be administered at one of Dr. John Farella‘s offices in Westchester County, NY.
Results
Results are visible within a week and take approximately 10 days for full results. The effects of Botox treatments usually last for three to four months; maintenance injections are necessary to maintain a more relaxed appearance of the face.
Anesthesia and Pain
We use small injection needles to minimize pain during your Botox injection in Westchester. Anesthesia is not required; however, the area may be numbed with a cold pack or topical anesthetic before the injection. The injections feel similar to a bug bite.
Recovery
Botox is a minimally invasive treatment that requires little to no recovery time. Most women and men are able to return to work and other activities immediately after the procedure. Some patients may wish to lie down for an hour or so.
There may be some small amount of redness, swelling, and bruising around the areas where the injections were made. These issues are common and will subside quickly.
Risks and Complications
With any procedure, risks and complications can occur but generally are rare. Side effects are extremely uncommon and can include headache, temporary eyelid droop, nausea, and short-term pain and redness at the injection site. You will receive instructions on contacting our staff if you have concerns or questions after your Botox treatment.
FDA Approval
In 2002, the FDA approved Botox Cosmetic for the treatment of moderate to severe frown lines. Botox was approved in 2004 for the treatment of severe primary axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive underarm perspiration) in patients unable to obtain relief using antiperspirants.
