Experience

Plastic surgery is a medical specialty comprising reconstructive and cosmetic, or aesthetic surgery. Both reconstructive and cosmetic surgery help millions of patients of both sexes and all ages every year. Reconstructive surgery is performed on abnormal structures of the body caused by birth defects, developmental abnormalities, trauma or injury, infection, tumors or disease. It is generally intended to improve function, but may also be used to approximate a normal appearance.

Cosmetic surgery reshapes normal structures of the body to improve the patient’s appearance and self-esteem. Plastic surgery, whether cosmetic or reconstructive, encourages and promotes a strong, positive self-image. Even a small change on the outside can create an extraordinary change on the inside, allowing an individual’s self-confidence to flourish. There are many good reasons for wanting to improve your appearance, not least of which is increasing self-confidence to enable social or business advancement.

Not every procedure is appropriate for everyone. Treatments must be customized for the individual patient. Most patients have a specific complaint … a single facial or body feature that keeps them from feeling attractive. Fortunately, there are perfectly good options available to them. Patients do not have to live out their lives with disproportionately sized noses, protruding ears, or eyes that look prematurely aged. Almost all areas of the body can be effectively reduced or augmented as needed. Modern technology and improved surgical procedures are making the reshaping process much easier and much more successful. However, no matter what type of plastic surgery you are considering, the most important factor in its success is the surgeon you choose.

Communication

Dr. Farella believes that continuous personal communication between physician and patient is absolutely essential, from initial consultation to the last post-operative visit. To establish a solid relationship of trust and open expression, he provides complimentary and completely private consultations, allotting as much time as necessary. He makes every effort to know his patients well, to listen and understand their needs and desires, always staying in touch with each patient’s feelings and making himself easily available.

Initial visits are used to develop realistic expectations and to determine if the patient is a candidate for a particular surgical procedure. Cosmetic surgery is an adjunct to good health. Preliminary visits include a focused personal history analysis, physical exam and an in-depth written evaluation.

Dr. Farella carefully explains procedures with their possible complications, as well as the expected recovery period. He provides patients with videos, brochures and photos of procedures, along with a tour of his operating room facility and an introduction to the staff.

Cosmetic surgery is no longer a luxury reserved only for the very rich and famous. When the surgery proposed is cosmetic and does not involve insurance reimbursement, patients are given the opportunity to discuss a financial plan. If applicable, Dr. Farella and the Center’s staff will assist you with your financial needs.
