Facial Peels
Jump to
Aging and sun damage can change the tone and texture of your skin, but facial peels can remove the damaged skin layers to make way for fresh new skin. A chemical peel uses a chemical solution to permeate through the skin tissues, encouraging sloughing of dead skin cells. Here at Plastic Surgery Westchester, you can get superficial, medium, and deep chemical facial peels in Westchester.
Superficial Chemical Peels
Superficial peels treat issues limited to the epidermis (the superficial skin layer) and involve minimal downtime and side effects. These peels remove dull and dead superficial skin cells. They are the gentlest and least abrasive of all chemical peels and are used to address uneven skin texture and minor skin discolorations.
Exfoliating the outermost layer of your skin during superficial facial peels can brighten and refine your complexion as new skin cells are revealed. The treatment may be repeated every two to five weeks.
Superficial chemical peels can treat acne by removing acne-causing bacteria and unclogging pores. They debride scar tissue to promote cell growth and reduce scarring, cleanse and exfoliate the skin to treat rosacea, and exfoliate the upper skin layers to lessen the appearance of melasma. Superficial peels also remove sebum deposits to improve uneven skin texture.
Medium Chemical Peels
Medium chemical peels target the epidermis and some parts of the dermis, the skin’s middle layer. These usually use glycolic acid or trichloroacetic acid. Medium-depth peels treat shallow acne scars and hyperpigmentation. They correct deeper lines, extensive sun damage, significant wrinkles, and melasma.
After getting medium chemical peels, you may experience peeling for five to seven days. These will be worth it once you notice a reduction in wrinkles, pore size, age spots, dark undereye circles, and improved skin tone and texture. You can expect these results to last six months to a year, especially if you follow a skincare maintenance routine.
Deep Chemical Peels
Deep chemical peels can address more significant skin problems, such as deeper wrinkles, deep-set acne scars, and discoloration from severe sun damage. They provide dramatic results using strong chemicals like phenol to reach your skin’s lower dermal layer. You will need a local anesthetic and sedation during the procedure to prevent discomfort.
Before a deep chemical peel, you will need pre-treatment for around eight weeks. This is necessary to prepare your skin for the strong peel and hasten the healing process. The pre-treatment helps make the surface layer thin enough so the chemical solution used in the main procedure can penetrate the layers of the skin deeply and evenly.
A single deep chemical peel treatment will give you long-lasting results. You may enjoy its effects for up to 10 years. You will not need a repeat procedure to get the desired results.
Your Facial Peels will be administered at one of Dr. John Farella‘s offices in Westchester County, NY.
