Description
Restylane® is a soft tissue filler that helps correct moderate to severe wrinkles and folds in the lower face. Perlane® has a thicker consistency. Made of a non-animal-based hyaluronic acid called NASHA™ (Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid), Restylane® and Perlane® resemble the body’s natural hyaluronic acid. Their high concentration of hyaluronic acid attracts and holds onto water to fill in folds and creases. Restylane® and Perlane® can be used in combination with Botox® for rejuvenation of both the lower and upper face.
The term “liquid face lift” refers to a non-surgical procedure that comprises Botox for the upper face, dermal fillers like JuvédermTM and Restylane® for the lower face and cheek area, skin rejuvenation with lasers and lights, and possibly non-surgical skin tightening.
About the Procedure (Board Certified)
Restylane® and Perlane® are injected into the skin using a very fine needle. The procedure takes up to 15 minutes.
Your Restylane will be administered at one of Dr. John Farella‘s offices in Westchester County, NY.
Results
Results are immediate, with noticeable reduction of the wrinkles, folds and creases injected with Restylane® and Perlane®. Treatment lasts for about 6 months or longer as hyaluronic acid is slowly absorbed by the body. Twice-yearly soft tissue filler treatments are recommended for consistent results. Dr. Farella often recommends touch-ups to sustain wrinkle reduction between treatments. Since injectable soft tissue fillers are absorbed by the body over time, it is important to establish a maintenance program to maintain optimal results.
Anesthesia and Pain
Restylane® or Perlane® treatment causes minimal pain because the products are administered using a very fine needle. Dr. Farella uses lidocaine injections or topical anesthetic cream in certain cases.
Recovery
Restylane or Perlane requires little to no down time, you should be able to return to work or school immediately after treatment. Your skin may appear red and swollen for up to one week after injection with Restylane® or Perlane® filler. During this time, avoid intense sun exposure or exposure to prolonged cold temperatures.
Risks and Complications
With any procedure, risks and complications can occur but generally are rare. Because Restylane® and or Perlane® do not contain animal proteins, they rarely cause allergic reactions. The products do not require allergy testing before treatment. Restylane® or Perlane® should not be used by women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or under 18.
To lessen bruising or bleeding at the injection site, discontinue aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, St. John’s Wort, high doses of vitamin E, or other medications that thin the blood for one week prior injection. Talk to your doctor about whether Restylane® and Perlane® are recommended soft tissue fillers if you are susceptible to keloids or hypertrophic scarring. You will receive instructions on contacting our staff if you have concerns or questions after your treatment.
